– wintery, crisp and christmasy –
This is it. Our first fully fledged winter sojourn in Europe! This time we’re hoping to experience proper snow ! And Dominica has joined us for part of the trip which is really exciting…a chance to test our knowledge of Munich and how much we’ve learned about the place.
After arriving very early on Saturday morning we charged straight into the city centre to make some last minute purchases for our trip before settling into a stupor. Sunday was more interesting …
The weather was just magnificent. No snow, but lots of sun and a brilliant blue sky. It was a welcome change after the smoke-filled dark skies of Sydney over the last few weeks – the bushfires were well behind us. We started the day with a walk in the English Garden. Beautiful and peaceful as always.
We followed up our walk with a quick lunch at home and then out again for a trip to the only Christmas Market still open in Munich. It was described as the “alternative” Christmas market – a bit hippie and, to be truthful, not a patch on the real thing. But it was a chance to give Mini a flavour of the Christmas Markets and we at least got a chance to drink a cup of Gluhwein.
We took a tram ride back into town and wandered about for a while, popping into a few churches. Still quite a few tourists around town.
We eventually walked home – short break- and then out again for dinner. Sadly, Haxnbauer had a long queue waiting outside so we found another German restaurant – not so great – so let’s leave it at that. A pleasant and slow day. Nice…….
